Yapping Dogs

After a long trip to LA I arrive back in the desert around 11.  The kid did not take the old dog out for a walk.  And she did not feed the stray.   I was tired and took the old dog walking.  It was dark and I took my dad's old heavy Maglite Flashlight.  And all the neighbors dogs started yapping and one neighbor had his radio blasting. I thought how noisy this is living in the middle of nowhere.   The sky was dark and the stars were bright.  I came back after about 10 minutes.  Then I went out back to commune with my new pal Earl and feed him.  He is growing on me and I know I cannot keep him.  I want to keep him.  He is a really nice dog.  I cannot handle 3 dogs no not at all.

Earlier in the day I did a three hour turnaround to the San Fernando Valley to see my accountant.  We updated each other.  Both of his kids are lawyers.  His father in law died.  We talked about death and getting old.  I have been his client since the 80's.  Time goes by fast.  I gave him all the stuff for my parents returns and for mine.  I have a short list of additional information to get him.  I was there 2 hours.  I paused for a moment took stock of the present.  Drove by my old high school and onto the freeway.

Arrived at my kid's house and her boyfriend, she and I went to dinner.  Lovely Vietnamese restaurant in Eagle Rock.

The drive back home I felt drained.  I felt old and sad and dying.  I just wanted to be home with my dogs.
